Ukrainian forces used FPV drones to intercept Russian Shahed drones over Crimea during the week — confirming FPV-as-interceptor as a repeatable, scalable counter-UAS tactic. Ukraine also struck the Titan-Barrikady ballistic missile development and production plant with an FP-5 Flamingo cruise missile — targeting the factory that produces the missiles used to strike Ukrainian cities. Zelenskyy's public announcement of a named campaign with a defined duration is deliberate strategic communication. Planners should note how Ukraine is using the timing and public framing of military campaigns as a diplomatic pressure tool — setting a political clock, signalling resolve to Western backers, and forcing Russia to respond publicly. This is a model for how a smaller military can use campaign announcements to shape the political environment around an operation.
- Production-chain targeting is more cost-effective than per-missile interception — hitting the production facility is more cost-effective than intercepting each missile it produces. Fires and targeting planners should think about nodes in the production chain, not just the delivered weapon.
- FPV drones as interceptors are now confirmed — cheap, scalable, and do not deplete expensive interceptor stocks. C-UAS planning should include this as a low-cost layer.
- Combat-proven systems integrating with European-standard sensors — Ukraine's Fire Point–Hensoldt partnership shows combat-tested platforms are being adapted to NATO-standard sensors. Procurement planners should assess these as potential options before European demand absorbs production capacity.
